DISREGARD FAKE, RECYCLED SECURITY ADVISORY ABOUT KIDNAPPING ON GBAGADA EXPRESSWAY - LAGOS CP

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has warned those behind the spread of fake news in the state to to change their ways or face the full wrath of the law for such criminal act.

CP Jimoh issued the warning, just as he directed detectives of the Command to go after those behind the latest spread of what the police called a fake security alert, purporting that kidnapping had increased along the Gbagada Expressway.

According to CP Jimoh, purveyors of the fake news are mischievous individuals who have the ill intention to cause unnecessary fear and apprehension among Lagosians.

FAKE
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command debunked the advisory as fake news, saying it did not emanate from the Command.

Hundeyin, who is a Chief Superintendent of Police, maintained that the same fake advisory was first circulated on the social media in January 2024, and later in September 2024, adding that at both times, the Command promptly debunked the claims.

However, the PPRO said the State Police Command was not unmindful of concerns raised in the alert and as such, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the Divisional Police Officers and the Area Commanders of the affected area to conduct immediate review of the security architecture of the entire area to forestall such occurrence.

He noted that improvement of the security architecture would be regularly reviewed and optimized to ensure absolute security for road users, residents of the area, and the entire people of Lagos State.

“To this end, CP Jimoh urges Lagosians to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or intimidation.” Adding that “Lagosians are urged to remain security conscious and report any suspicious activity around them to the nearest police station or call Lagos State Police Command Control Room on 08065154338, 08063299264, or 09129229576.”
