DR CONGO TO JOIN PEACE TALKS WITH RWANDA-BACKED M23 REBELS
The Democratic Republic of Congo has agreed to send a delegation to Angola on Tuesday for talks with Rwandan-backed rebels in the east.
The presidency confirmed the decision in a statement on Sunday, as the peace talks aim to resolve a spiraling conflict involving the M23 rebel group.
This comes after Angola announce last week that direct peace talks between DR Congo and M23 rebels would begin in the capital Luanda on March 18.
President Felix Tshisekedi had long ruled out dialogue with M23 but is now considering changing his position.
The government spokesperson, Tina Slama, could not confirm who will make up the delegation as of Sunday.
The M23 spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka said in a post on X on Sunday that the group had received Angola's invitation, but did not say who would participate.
