MAKINDE Picks Fmr DSS Boss LAWAL DAURA as APM Presidential Running-Mate
Oyo State Governor and Presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, SEYI MAKINDE, has picked former Director General of the State Security Service, LAWAL DAURA, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Governor MAKINDE made the announcement during the APM’s elective national convention, held at the Rilwanu Adamu Square, within the Bauchi State Government House in Bauchi metropolis.
MAKINDE named LAWAL as a replacement for IBRAHIM BALA, who was initially put forward as a placeholder.
The change comes few days after LAWAL joined the APM, following his resignation from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, upon losing the party’s governorship ticket for Katsina State.
In his address to APM chieftains and supporters at the Bauchi State event, Governor MAKINDE said his choice of LAWAL DAURA was deliberate to solve the security situation of the country.
MAKINDE declared that the task before the opposition ahead of the 2027 general election was bigger than merely grabbing power.
He said the major challenge ahead is to give Nigerians a genuine choice about the future of the country and demonstrate how an alternative government would improve their lives.
The candidate congratulated the new national officers of the APM, including YUSUF DANTALLE who was re-elected as the National Chairman of the party, as he celebrated the APM had for emerging as a strong opposition party within a short period.
He urged the new leadership of the party to work with other opposition political parties towards presenting a credible alternative to Nigerians in 2027, stressing that a viable opposition remained indispensable to the survival of democracy.
