Former Captain of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, ONOME EBI, has retired from professional football amidst cheers from fellow teammates.

ONOME EBI was part of the Super Falcons teams that won four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles, plus six appearances in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Leading Super Falcons players in paying tributes to EBI, the current team captain, RASHEEDAT AJIBADE praised her leadership and legacies, saying that she was more than a captain and had been a trailblazer.

AJIBADE recounted that from EBI’s early days with Bayelsa Queens to shining on global stages in Sweden, Turkey, China, Spain, and back home in Nigeria, she proved that no dream was too big and no barrier too high to scale.

Among other achievements, ONOME EBI made history in 2023 as the first African footballer, male or female, to play in six FIFA World Cup tournaments.
