INEC Debunks Claims of Non-Display of Voters Register in Alimosho, Shomolu, Lagos State
The Lagos State Secretariat of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says the display of voters register covered all 245 wards, also known as Registration Areas, in the state.
This is contrary to claims in some social media platforms projected on a national television channel, alleging that the display of the Register of Voters did not take place at some Registration Area centres in Alimosho and Shomolu Local Government Areas.
The Lagos State Secretariat of INEC debunked the reports, saying such claims are false and do not reflect the actual situation.
The disclaimer was contained in a statement issued by the Head, Voter Education and Publicity Department, ESTHER EMEH, on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner.
"For the avoidance of doubt, the display of the Register of Voters was conducted across all 245 Registration Areas (Wards) in Lagos State, including all Registration Areas in Alimosho and Shomolu Local Government Areas", EMEH noted.
She said "the Commission therefore urges members of the public to disregard this misleading report and obtain accurate information through INEC's official communication channels.
"INEC Lagos State also urges media organizations and practitioners to verify information from credible and authoritative sources before disseminating it to the public. "Responsible journalism and accurate reporting are essential to preventing the spread of misinformation and maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.
"INEC Lagos State remains committed to transparency, credible electoral processes, and the timely dissemination of accurate information to the public", the INEC spokesperson in Lagos assured.
