ISIS Senior Leader, ABU-BILAL AL-MANUKI, Killed in Nig-US Counterterrorism Offensive
A terrorist commander, ABU-BILAL AL-MANUKI, also known as ABU-MAINOK, has been killed along with several of his fighters around the Lake Chad Basin in North-East Nigeria.
President BOLA AHMED TINUBU confirmed the development in a statement, saying ABU-MAINOK was exterminated in a daring joint operation led by the Nigerian Armed Forces and the United States military personnel.
President TINUBU noted that the overnight strike on ABU-MAINOK compound in the Lake Chad Basin recorded “a significant example of effective collaboration in the fight against terrorism”.
TINUBU noted that “Our determined Nigerian Armed Forces, working closely with the Armed Forces of the United States, conducted a daring joint operation that dealt a heavy blow to the ranks of the Islamic State.”
The President stated that “Early assessments confirm the elimination of the wanted IS senior leader, ABU-BILAL AL-MANUKI, also known as ABU-MAINOK, along with several of his lieutenants, during a strike on his compound in the Lake Chad Basin.”
He said Nigeria appreciates the partnership with the United States in advancing shared security objectives, and extended his gratitude to President DONALD TRUMP for his leadership and unwavering support in the counterterrorism fight.
The President equally commended military personnel involved on both sides for their professionalism and courage, saying that he looked forward to more decisive strikes against all terrorist enclaves across the nation.
President BOLA AHMED TINUBU’s statement came more than four hours after United States President, DONALD TRUMP, confirmed the elimination of ABU-BILAL AL-MINUKI, whom he described as the second in command of ISIS, and the most active terrorist in the world.
In a post on his social media handle, which was retweeted on the White House X handle, President TRUMP noted that: “Tonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the Armed Forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a meticulously planned and very complex mission to eliminate the most active terrorist in the world from the battlefield.”
TRUMP noted that ABU-BILAL AL-MINUKI will no longer terrorise the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target Americans, stressing that with his removal, “ISIS’s global operation is greatly diminished.
The US President thanked the Nigerian government for the partnership on the operation.
