5 Suspects Face Police Obstruction Charges in Ota, Ogun State
The Ogun State Police Command has charged five suspects before the Ota Magistrate Court for assault and obstruction of police officers while performing their lawful duties.
The defendants are thirty-sixty-year-old MORENIKEJI BADMUS; forty-year-old ADEDOJA SEGUN; forty-nine-year-old JEREMIAH ODISE UGBEDE ONRIDE; as well as MIKE STEPHEN who is twenty-eight; and DAVID ODEH, aged thirty-two.
The defendants were arraigned on charges of criminal conspiracy, assault on police officers, obstruction of lawful duty and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The accused persons were arrested following an incident around the Bells area of Iyana-Iyesi in Ota, on Friday last week, October 2, 2026.
The police spokesman, OLUSEYI BABASEYI said the incident occurred when a police patrol team intercepted a suspect found in possession of a large quantity cannabis in the area.
He said while conveying the handcuffed suspect to the police station, the officers were ambushed by a group of persons who attacked them with cutlasses, stones and bottles.
The Police Public Relations Officer said the incident resulted in injuries to the police personnel and damage to their operational vehicle.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, BODE OJAJUNI, has reiterated that the safety of police officers performing lawful duties remains a priority of the Command.
CP OJAJUNI, therefore, urged members of the public to refrain from physical confrontation with law enforcement personnel and channel grievances through established lawful channels.
