Woman Jailed 14 Years for Child Theft in Ekiti State
A thirty-seven-year-old woman, identified as DEBORAH AYENI, is to spend fourteen years in prison for the theft of a child in Ekiti State.
Justice LEKAN OLATAWURA of the Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti found AYENI guilty of the charge and sentenced her in absentia.
Justice OLATAWURA declared the convict wanted after her sureties failed to produce her in court and directed the court registrar to notify the Controller General of Customs and the Nigeria Police to have her arrested.
The Judge also sentenced the two sureties, including AYENI’s father, BABATOPE EBENEZER AYENI, to six months imprisonment, for failing to produce the convict in court.
During the trial, the prosecutor, IBIRONKE ODETOLA, recounted how the convict had on August 4, 2025, stole the new-born child of one MUSTAPHER ALIU and his wife, FALMATA in Ado-Ekiti.
