INEC Flags Fraudulent Online Voter Registration, Begins PVC Distribution October 8

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has cautioned the public about a fraudulent online scheme claiming to be offering another round of online voter registration from September 28, 2026, to October 27, 2026.

INEC flagged the fraudulent scheme over the weekend, adding that the website associated with the scheme is fake and has no affiliation whatsoever with the Commission.

In a statement on its website, INEC said members of the public are strongly advised not to click on the link or submit any personal information on the website, as doing so may expose them to the risk of having their sensitive personal data harvested or misused.

The Commission also clarified that the voter registration exercise closed on July 26, 2026, adding that any information suggesting that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise was currently ongoing through the above-mentioned website is false.

INEC urged the public to remain vigilant and to verify all electoral information through the Commission’s official communication channels.

It noted that “the public is advised to disregard the fraudulent website and rely only on information issued through INEC’s official channels.”

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission will begin the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards to newly registered voters or those who applied for transfer or replacement of PVCs on Thursday this week, October 8, 2026.

INEC ‎Chairman, Professor JOASH AMUPITAN, made the announcement during an engagement with some journalists in Abuja.

‎Professor AMUPITAN said the PVC distribution is part of preparations to ensure that eligible Nigerians participate in the 2027 general elections.

‎AMUPITAN also disclosed that INEC was strengthening the use of technology to ensure that stolen, lost or compromised voter cards cannot be used by unauthorised persons during the elections.

He also warned political parties and their supporters against disrupting political campaigns, rallies and other activities of rival parties.
