Fake Online Miracles: Police Detains Scammer in Ilaro

Detectives in Ogun State have uncovered an online scam involving the swindling of over Eighteen Million Naira from unsuspecting victims seeking prayers and spiritual help.

This follows the arrest of one ADEWALE OGOEMI AROJAH by operatives of the Ilaro Division of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly impersonating a renowned cleric on Facebook.

The Police Public Relations Officer, OLUSEYI BABASEYI, confirmed the arrest of AROJAH following a complaint lodged by one MUYIWA AKOGUN on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

BABASEYI said complainant, who calls himself Prophet Dr. MUYIWA AKOGUN of Facebook, informed the police that some criminals operating online were defrauding people through a duplicated Facebook account bearing his name.

He said upon receipt of the complaint, the DPO of Ilaro Division mobilised some detectives to track down the perpetrator, which led to the arrest of the suspect at Ajegunle village, in the Ilaro/Ibogun axis.

The PPRO said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect systematically targeted victims seeking spiritual assistance on Prophet AKOGUN’s Facebook page, gains their trust and swindled them of funds.

He said the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
