NNPP NWC MEETS IN LAGOS, BERATES INEC OVER CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS VIOLATION

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has resolved the party will present its own candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The party leaders further resolved that all presidential aspirants on the platform of the NNPP would have to undergo the mandatory primaries.

However, the NNPP’s NWC also decided that the party was open to work in alliance with other political parties to win the next general elections.

The decisions were reached at an emergency closed-door meeting of the NWC in Apapa, Lagos, yesterday, which was presided over by the National Chairman, Dr AGBO MAJOR, with the support of the Secretary General, Dr OGINNI OLAPOSI.

The Chairman of the NNPP Board of Trustees, Dr BONIFACE ANIEBONAM, who briefed newsmen at the end of the meeting, said they discussed urgent issues of national importance.

Dr ANIEBONAM said the NWC frowned at the delay by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in uploading the names of the new national executives of the NNPP on its online platform to enable the party participate actively in elections.

ANIEBONAM said the NNPP had written several times to INEC and even demanded that elections be put on hold pending until that was done, but the Commission had continued to violate their members’ constitutional rights to participate in elections.

He said the party leaders also considered the alleged usurpation of the name and initials of the NNPP by some expelled members of the party, which had also been brought to the attention of INEC.
