Osun State Guber: Police Document 30 Politically Motivated Killings Ahead - Force PRO
The Nigeria Police High Command says it has taken note of the upsurge of political violence in Osun State, ahead of the off-circle governorship election.
The Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja says at least thirty politically motivated killings have been documented in Osun State.
The Force spokesman, ANIETTE ANIEDU OKOKON, said the incidents are being investigated, but failed to disclose the identities of those who have been arrested or are under investigated.
Speaking further, ANIETTE ANIEDU OKOKON said the Osun State Commissioner of Police has a marching order to go after those orchestrating political violence.
On the reported arrest of the father of Prince ADENIYI ADEYEMI of the Presidential Foreign Investment and Promotion Council scandal, the Force spokesman said he lacked the authority to speak on the matter and could not confirm the report.
Meanwhile, the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, has said it members are largely those who are being killed in politically motivated attacks ahead of the governorship election.
A spokesman for the APC Governorship Campaign Council, REMI OMOWAIYE, made the claim in an interview on television, but mentioned only three names, out of over thirty mentioned by the Police.
OMOWAIYE also alleged that some of those responsible for the violent attacks are hiding inside the Government House in the state capital, Osogbo.
