POLICE CORPORAL ARRESTED FOR CULTISM IN UNIPORT
The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two students of the University of Port Harcourt on suspicion of belonging to a cult group operating on the campus.
One of the suspected cultists is Police Corporal ONWUKWE GODSWILL, as well as IFEANYI ISRAEL, who is said to be a Two Hundred Level Student of Biomedical Technology.
The Police Public Relations Officer, GRACE IRINGE-KOKO, said the suspected cultists were first confronted by operatives of the UNIPORT internal security team on September 26, 2025, during the signing-out activities of final-year students.
Police Superintendent IRINGE-KOKO said following the incident, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Unit were dispatched to the scene, which led to the arrest of the suspects.
In a statement, further disclosed that a search on the suspects revealed that they were armed with two locally-made pistols, four rounds of live cartridges, two rounds live ammunition and a small axe.
She said a further search of the apartment of Police Corporal ONWUKWE GODSWILL, who is said to be the cult leader, turned up additional exhibits, including a locally-made pistol and two machetes.
The Police spokeswoman said the Rivers State Command was currently working to unravel other potential network members or accomplices, with a view to making them to face the law.
She said the Commissioner of Police, OLUGBENGA ADEPOJU, also reaffirmed the commitment of the Rivers State Police Command to maintaining peace and security in the state, adding that there would be no hiding place for criminals in the state.
