PSC APPROVES APPOINTMENT OF 9 STATE COMMISSIONERS OF POLICE, WARNS AGAINST ABUSE OF TACTICAL UNITS
The management of the Police Service Commission has approved the appointment of nine new state Commissioners of Police, based on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The new State CPs include Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba for Zamfara State Police Command; Breret Emmanuel Simon for Taraba State Command; Christopher Ado Emmanuel for Yobe, and Olusegun Eyitayo Omosayin for Cross Rivers State.
Others are Adamu Abdullahi Elleman for Niger State Command; Sani Omolori Aliyu for Bauchi Command Command; Bello Shehu for Katsina Command; Saka Adewale Ajao for the FCT Police Command, and Ojo Adekimi for Kwara Command.
PSC’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed in a statement that the new State CPs were subjected to oral interview, which was coordinated by DIG Taiwo Lakanu Rtd, before their appointment was approved.
Ani noted that the Chairman of the Commission DIG Hashimu Argungu Rtd advised the police officers to ensure that Tactical Units are not abused at the State Commands and not used to do the work meant for recognised Departments.
DIG Argungu observed that several State Commissioners of Police have been found to abuse the creation of Tactical Units and rendered recognised Police Departments redundant, even those that are headed by Deputy Commissioners of Police.
On his part, DIG Lakanu, who represents the Police Force in the PSC, told the new Commissioners of Police to work with their subordinates to gain the trust of the people, especially the youth, traditional leaders and other organisations.
