Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, says true progress begins when the healthcare of citizens is treated as a right and not as a privilege.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu made the declaration at the official unveiling of an upgraded thirty-bed-space Primary Health Centre, named after her in the Ikoyi-Obalande area of Lagos State.
“I recall the former primary health care centre in 2019, when it was operating as a rehabilitated temporary facility. Therefore, I’m pleased to witness its transformation, and I say well done. This project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed, GCFR, which prioritises the health of all Nigerians, especially women and children.”
The First Lady who was represented at the event by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, together with the wife of the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Hajia Laila Jibrin Barau, stressed the importance of investing in the healthcare needs of the people.
“True progress begins when we treat healthcare, not as a privilege, but as a right of every citizen. This, therefore, is a beacon of hope for mothers, children, the elderly and vulnerable groups in our society.”

Furthermore, Senator Oluremi Tinubu who is also a former First Lady of Lagos, commended the Executive Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Hon Fuad Atanda-Lawal for his commitment to grassroots development.
“This centre stands as a testament to what responsive and people-centred government should embody. By choosing to investment in the health and future of our people, you have demonstrated impactful leadership.”

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by his wife, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, acknowledged the impact of the recently approved local government financial autonomy on developments at the grassroots.
“Today we are witnessing the dividend of the strategic local government autonomy policy, proudly introduced by His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which is a significant turning point in Nigeria’s democratic evolution. Lagos State whole-heartedly embrace this policy and presently, we are enjoying the benefits of insightful leadership.”
Earlier, the Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Hon Fuad Atanda Lawal, described the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Primary Health Centre as one of his biggest achievements, as he prepares to exit office after eight years.

“This project pushed me; it stretched me. We were able to build this edifice in four months. We commenced construction in March” Lawal said.
The Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA Chairman also said the decision to name the new Primary Health Centre after the First Lady was due to her track records as a legislator and advocate for the people.
“It is in this spirit that this PHC was imagined, not just as a medical facility, but as a pillar of access, equity and community resilience. We did not just upgrade the building; we created a modern functional space that will serve the entire community. For mothers seeking safe delivery, to children needing immunisation, to health professionals who deserve dignity in their work, and everyday people who simply want to live well. This is for you. This is for all of us.”
Hon Fuad Atanda Lawal thanked President Bola Tinubu for the bold step he took in removing fuel subsidy, which he said has made more funds available for development at the grassroots.
