UK State Visit: REMI TINUBU to Preach at Lambeth Palace, Amidst Mixed Reactions by Nigerians
The wife of Nigeria’s President, Senator OLUREMI TINUBU, is scheduled to deliver a sermon at the Lambeth Palace in London tomorrow, Thursday, March 19.
The Lambeth Palace is the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, and OLEREMI TINUBU’s sermon is part of the itinerary of President BOLA AHMED TINUBU’s state visit to the United Kingdom
Before then, President TINUBU and the First Lady will hold a meeting with King CHARLES III, together with Prince WILLIAM, and his wife, CATHERINE, after which they will travel to Windsor for a state banquet.
However, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State, GBADEBO RHODES-VIVOUR, has said President TINUBU’s state visit to the UK is not a priority for Nigerians.
RHODES-VIVOUR said he does not see how President TINUBU’s state visit to the UK will add value to the life of Nigerians who are struggling with economic hardship due to the policies of his administration and the global impact of the Middle East crisis.
GBADEBO RHODES-VIVOUR who is now a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, criticized President TINUBU and the ruling All Progressives Congress for encouraging political intolerance that is threatening Nigeria’s democracy.
Similarly, Nigerian frontline political activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, OMOYELE SOWORE, also criticized President BOLA TINUBU’s state visit to the United Kingdom.
OMOYELE SOWORE said President TINUBU should have cancelled the UK visit following the deadly bomb attacks by terrorists in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Speaking in an interview on a television channel, SOWORE described President TINUBU’s UK-state visit as a mere excursion, adding that he does not expect any reward from the trip.
The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2023 elections maintained that Nigeria has much more to offer to the UK that what it stands to benefit from TINUBU’s visit, if the country was being governed properly.
OMOYELE SOWORE also took the time to explain what happened at the Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday, where he is facing cybercrimes charges.
SOWORE said the trial judge, Justice MOHAMMED UMAR ordered his defence lawyer, MARSHALL ABUBABAR to kneel down before the open court for insisting on cross-examining the defence witness, after initially threatening that he would lose the case if he insisted on cross-examination of the prosecution witness.
