Respite for DENIS ODAMA Detained for Alleged Derogatory Comment Against Cross River State Governor

Cross River State Governor, BASSEY EDET OTU, has ordered the halt of a legal action his aides brought against one DENIS ODAMA, over a derogatory and insidious statement made against his person.

Governor OTU also said he has directed the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to urgently review the matter and take necessary steps to discontinue the case against DENIS ODAMA, to facilitate his release from the correctional centre without further delay.

The Governor said he decided to intervene in the matter based on his firm belief in the provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which guarantees every citizen the right to freely express themselves.

Recognizing DENIS ODAMA as a young Cross Reverian, Governor BASSEY OTU equally pledged his commitment to upholding the right of all Cross River indigenes to freely express themselves, including those who criticize him.

However, the Governor encouraged young people to exercise their constitutional freedoms responsibly, and with regards for the cultural values and moral standards.
