2027: OTTI Disowns UZODINMA's Claim of Endorsement of President TINUBU by South-East Governors
Abia State Governor, ALEX OTTI, has distanced himself from claims by Governor HOPE UZODIMMA of Imo State that all five South-East governors have endorsed 2027 re-election bid of President BOLA AHMED TINUBU.
Governor UZODIMMA, who is the Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, made the declaration during a meeting with in Owerri with members of the Imo State Traditional Rulers and Elders Council.
However, Governor OTTI of Abia State has dismissed UZODIMMA, saying he merely expressed a personal opinion, which he acknowledged was within his right.
Governor OTTI said the decision about who becomes Nigeria’s president in 2027 would ultimately be decided by Nigerians through the ballot.
The Abia State Governor made the clarification during his monthly media chat in the state capital, Umuahia, in response to a question on UZODIMMA’s declaration.
OTTI said as a member of the Labour Party, his political party has its own presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 election.
However, the Abia State Governor said he was not opposed to President TINUBU’s second term bid, as it is his constitutional right to contest again.
Governor OTTI also said he supports some of the economic policies of the Federal Government, including the removal of petrol subsidy, which he said encouraged corruption.
