2027: PRP Presidential Candidate Unveils Plans for Cheap Petrol, Charges INEC on Confidence Building

Former governor of Cross River State, DONALD DUKE, has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to prove to Nigerians that it is ready for the 2027 general election.

DONALD DUKE is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, and has made the call to INEC in an interview on television.

DUKE observed that a lot of Nigerians have grown cynical about INEC’s handling of elections due to past experiences, including last minute postponement of election and the I-ReV result transmission glitch during the 2023 presidential election.

He also downplayed the increase in the number of registered voters to one hundred and three-point-four million, stressing that the ratio of registered voters to actual voters in Nigeria remains very low.

Speaking further, PRP presidential candidate emphasised the need for a robust debate to put the major issues before Nigerians ahead of the elections.

He also explained his plans to reduce the price of petroleum products in the country, which entails selling crude oil to local refineries in Naira, believing that would bring down the price of petrol to around Three Hundred Naira.

Meanwhile; the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said it is on course with its preparations for the 2027 general election.

INEC Deputy Director of Information and Publicity, WILFRED IFOGA, said the Commission is now on the ninth item on the list of fourteen activities leading up to the elections.

WILFRED IFOGA also said part of efforts being made by INEC to boast public confidence in the electoral process is the stakeholders’ engagement and press conference on Tuesday by the Chairman, Professor JOASH AMUPITAN.
