32 COWS FOUND DEAD AFTER RAINFALL AND THUNDERSTORMS IN OGUN STATE
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of an entire herd of cattle during heavy rainfall and thunderstorms at Osara community in Odeda Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola disclosed in a statement that two herders filed a report on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Aregbe Divisional Police Headquarters of the strange death of thirty-two cows under their watch in a forest while it was raining heavily.
CSP Odutola said the herders, who are jointly responsible for the livestock, suspected that the deaths may have resulted from thunderstorm with intense lightning.
The PPRO said a prompt on-the-spot assessment was conducted at the scene by the Divisional Police Officer and the initial observations revealed no visible injuries or foul play on the animals
She said the cattle were found lying lifeless in various positions in the forest and the owners confirmed that they do not suspect any individual or group, nor have they made any allegations or accusations.
The Police spokeswoman said the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, urged the community to remain calm and treat the incident as a natural phenomenon.
