ASUU Suspends Warning Strike; Gives FG One-Month to Address Demands
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has suspended its two-week warning strike for one-month after ten days.
The ASUU strike began on Monday, October 13, 2025, to press home the demands of university lecturers of issues of concern to them.
ASUU President, Professor CHRIS PIWUNA, said the suspension of the strike followed the renewed commitments of the Federal Government and the National Assembly to address the union’s demands.
Professor PIWUNA made the announcement at a press conference in Abuja, confirming recent interventions and engagements with the government committee led by YAYALE AHMED.
PIWUNA also disclosed that the National Assembly had engaged with the leadership of ASUU through the Deputy President of the Senate.
He said ASUU decided to allow the government a period of one month to meet their demands, which include the review of the 2009 ASUU-Federal Government agreement.
Others are the payment of outstanding salaries and earned allowances, and the disbursement of the university revitalisation fund.
The ASUU President warned that the union would resume the industrial action without prior notice if no concrete steps were taken within the next one month.
