Ibadan Declaration Is About Candidates Backed by Data to Win - INI EMEMOBONG
More details are emerging on the outlook from the National Summit of Opposition Political Party Leaders in Ibadan, Oyo State, last Saturday.
The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, involved in the summit says the focus is not about a merger but a civic engineering for political realignment.
The spokesman for the PDP group, INI EMEMOBONG, said the objective is to ensure that candidates are given a level playing field and the electorate determine election winners.
Speaking during a television interview, INI EMEMOBONG said Nigeria was facing a defining moment in the history of democratic governance in the country.
EMEMOBONG said the opposition coalition has a framework to actualize the Ibadan declaration, which he said is about truncating the plan to foist a one-party state in Nigeria.
He said the opposition stakeholders are looking beyond sentiments and emotions to adopt a candidate that can win the votes of Nigerians based on data.
Speaking further, INI EMEMOBONG said after the Ibadan Summit, further discussions are ongoing to determine whether to take the opposition consensus understanding beyond the presidential ticket.
