IBOKETTE IBAS Gets Ambassadorial Appointment, as President TINUBU Sends 68 Nominees to Senate for Confirmation

President BOLA AHMED TINUBU has increased the list of his nominees for confirmation as ambassadors to sixty-eight, with thirty other names included in the third batch.

The latest list of ambassadorial nominees includes former Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Air Vice Marshal IBOKETTE IBAS, who is in the category of non-career ambassadors and high commissioners.

According to a letter President TINUBU has just forwarded to the Senate President, GODSWILL AKPABIO, the fresh nominees include thirty-four career ambassadors and thirteen-one non-career ambassadors and high commissioners.

Senator AKPABIO read President TINUBU’s letter on the floor of the Red Chamber of the National Assembly during plenary, and the names also include Senator ITA ENANG, CHIOMA OHAKIM, BELLO DANBAZAU.

Both lists have been referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, which is expected to conduct the screening process and report back to the upper chamber within one week.

Former INEC Chairman, Professor MAHMOOD YAKUBU, is also in the list, as well as former Minister of Aviation, FEMI FANI-KAYODE; former Abia State Governor, OKEZIE IKPEAZU; former Enugu State Governor, IFEANYI UGWUANYI, former presidential aide, RENO OMOKRI; and Senator JIMOH IBRAHIM.

Recall that in his first list to the Senate, President TINUBU sent the names of KAYODE ARE, AMINU DALHATU, and AYODELE OKE for screening and confirmation as Nigerian Ambassadors to the United States, United Kingdom and France.

ARE, DALHATU and OKE have already appeared before the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs chaired by Senator SANI BELLO of the APC from Niger North, for screening.

Senator BELLO who presenting the report of committee at plenary, said AYODELE OKE cleared all allegations previously leveled against him.
