PFIPC: FHC Strikes Out Criminal Charges Against Fake DG, Trial Moves to FCT High Court
The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out criminal charge against ADENIYI ADEYEMI of the alleged fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC.
Justice MOHAMMED UMAR struck out the eight-count criminal charge the Federal Government brought against ADENIYI ADEYEMI on the request of the prosecution counsel.
The Director of Public Prosecution in the Federal Ministry of Justice, ROTIMI OYEDEPO, adopted an application seeking to move the case to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for fresh arraignment of the defendant.
OYEDEPO said the move was at the instance of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, following a review of the case file, which found loopholes in the charges filed against ADEYEMI by the Inspector General of Police.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said the review revealed that documents allegedly forged by ADEYEMI to support the operations of the fake agency can be prosecuted by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, as against the Federal High Court.
He said fresh charges have already been filed at the High Court of the FCT and that ADEYEMI would be expeditiously arraigned.
Reports indicate that the defence counsel, IBRAHIM ANGULU, did not raise any objection to the application, following which Justice UMAR STRUCK out the charges accordingly.
ADENIYI ADEYEMI is accused of conspiracy and forgery following his arrest for parading himself at Director General of the so-called PFIPC, which the Federal Government said is non-existent and fake
