Police Partners Bank Executives on Fight Against Financial Crimes and Cybercrimes

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, IFEANYI UCHE HENRY, has stressed the need for effective collaboration with financial institutions in addressing financial crimes and cybercrime.

CP UCHE observed that financial systems are often exploited as channels for cybercriminal activities, which he said the centre was positioned to tackle.

UCHE was speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the Body of Bank Chief Executive Officers in Nigeria at the NPF-NCCC Headquarters in Abuja.

In a statement confirming the development, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP BENJAMIN HUNDEYIN, said the focus of the visit by the bank officials was to explore ways for the strengthening of strategic collaboration in the fight against cybercrime and financial crimes in Nigeria.

ACP HUNDEYIN quoted the Director of the NPF-NCCC reaffirming the unwavering commitment of the centre to combating cybercrime, both nationally and internationally, through proactive intelligence-driven policing, digital forensics, and strategic partnerships.

He stressed that effective collaboration with financial institutions remains critical in addressing cybercrime, noting that financial systems are often exploited as channels for cybercriminal activities, just as he outlined the core mandates of the NPF-NCCC, which include:
• Investigation and support for the prosecution of cybercrime cases
• Digital forensic examination and analysis
• Social media monitoring and cyber intelligence gathering
• Intelligence analysis and cyber threat assessment
• Vulnerability assessment and protection of Nigeria’s Critical Information Infrastructure

In his response, the head of the visiting delegation, Mr. NIXON IWEDI, who is the Chairman of the Body of Bank Chief Executive Officers in Nigeria, and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Signature Bank, stated that the visit was a follow-up to earlier engagements with the Inspector-General of Police in Lagos, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and the banking sector in tackling cybercrime and financial fraud.

He commended the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the NPF-NCCC, for its professionalism, resilience, and sustained efforts in combating cybercriminal activities within Nigeria and across international borders.
