Public Holiday in Bauchi; Half-Day Work in Oyo, as 7 States Celebrate Golden Jubilee
Seven states across Nigeria are celebrating fifty years of their existence today, with various commemorative events to mark the Golden Jubilee.
These are Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Imo, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, and Oyo states, which were created in June 1976, by former Military Head of State, General YAKUBU GOWON.
In Oyo State, the government has approved early closure of offices across the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies to enable workers participate in the ceremonies.
The Secretary to the State Government, Professor MUSIBAU ADETUNJI BABATUNDE, issued the directive in a circular, which was published on the official X handle of the Oyo State government.
The grand finale of the Oyo State Golden Jubilee celebration will feature a gala and award night at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Agodi, Ibadan.
Meanwhile; workers in Bauchi State are observing public holiday today for the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of the state.
Governor BALA MOHAMMED approved the work-free day, as announced in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, MUKHTAR GIDADO.
According to the statement, the public holiday applies to all categories of civil servants in both the public and private sectors across Bauchi State, except essential service providers.
The spokesman said Governor MOHAMMED described the anniversary as a moment of reflection on Bauchi State’s journey over the past fifty years.
He said the Governor also urged Bauchi residents to use the occasion to pray for the continued peace, prosperity and development of the state.
