RIVERS LAWMAKERS SPOIL FOR SHOWDOWN, SERVE GOV FUBARA 'NOTICE OF GROSS MISCONDUCT', AS 2025 BUDGET PRESENTATION HITS BRICKWALL

The Rivers State House of Assembly has served a notice of gross misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Ngozi Odu.

The state lawmakers who embarked on an indefinite recess last week, claimed in the notice obtained by some reporters in Port Harcourt that their action was in line with the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

The latest development comes days after the House of Assembly accused Governor Fubara of frustrating the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment which affirmed the group of twenty-five lawmakers led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

The Supreme Court also ordered Governor Fubara to represent the 2025 Budget of the Rivers State Government to the House of Assembly under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule.

However, the House embarked on an indefinite adjournment without considering Governor Fubara’s request in a letter to present the budget on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

The Commissioner for Information, Joseph Johnson, confirmed the development in an interview with newsmen on Sunday, and reaffirmed the intention of Governor Fubara to present the budget to the lawmakers this week, in line with the Supreme Court judgment.

But the spokesman for the House of Assembly, Hon Enemi Goerge told journalist during a news conference in the state capital that the House had not received Governor Fubara’s letter.

The lawmaker challenged Governor Fubara to provide an acknowledged copy of the letter he claimed to have sent to the House.
