SENATE SEXUAL HARASSMENT SCANDAL: IRETI KINGIBE DECLARES “UNWAVERING STANCE FOR JUSTICE, AND WOMEN’S RIGHTS”
The Senator Representing the Federal Capital Territory in the 10th National Assembly, Senator Ireti Kingibe, has promised to champion the sexual harassment case involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Senator Kingibe, who is the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, said she was aware of the dismay Nigerians expressed towards her over her initial takes on the sexual harassment allegation against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Senator Kingibe said in a statement that she was aware of the narratives that had been going around, adding that her actions were not to undermine Senator Uduaghan’s claims, but to buttress that I was not aware in the first place of any such happenings.
She declared that as a sitting Senator, she would always defend the truth and fight to right all wrongs, as sexual harassment and assault have become commonplace in homes and workplaces.
The FCT Senator, who is one of four women in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly, said that every Nigerian, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, or religion, should be committed to the struggle to end it as it affects all genders.
