TINUBU AT 2: PETER OBI, OTHERS FAULT IMPACT OF PETROL SUBSIDY REMOVAL
An economist, PAUL ALAJE, says the removal of petrol subsidy has impacted the Nigerian economy both positively and negatively.
On one hand, ALAJE said it has put more money in the hands of the government across all level, which he observed that only a few states are investing the surplus revenue.
However, ALAJE who is the Chief Economist at SPM Professionals, maintained that subsidy removal has increased households’ poverty, according World Bank records.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, PETER OBI, insisted that he would have handled the petrol subsidy removal differently, if he had the opportunity.
On the issue of insecurity, the former governor of Anambra State said the government needed to be firm in taking actions to secure its citizens.
He noted that there was no point building new road infrastructure when citizens do not feel safe to travel to their villages due to threats of insecurity.
