TINUBU SWEARS-IN IBOK-ETE EKWE IBAS AS RIVERS STATE SOLE ADMINISTRATOR

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, (Rtd) as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State.

Ibok-Ete Ibas, who hails from Cross River State, was Nigeria's 22nd Chief of Naval Staff, serving from August 2015 until 2021, under Muhammadu Buhari as President.

He was later appointed as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana, after he retired from the military, and he served in that capacity between 2021 and 2023.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed in a statement that the swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Minister, Lateef Fagbemi, among other top government officials.

This comes less than twenty-four hours after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to the protracted political crisis in the state, which has already been settled in a judgment of the Supreme Court.

President Tinubu also announced the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Odu, and the entire members of the State House of Assembly for six months in the first instance.
