U.S MISSION HIGHLIGHTS REPORTS CRITICISING NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT FOR RESOURCES MISMANAGEMENT, WRONG PRIORITIES

By Frank Zera, Lagos 197

The United States Mission in Nigeria says reports of lack of fiscal responsibility in the Nigerian government is fueling inequality among citizens and eroding public trust in the administration.

In a post on its social media handles, the US Mission Nigeria backed its comment with media reports and comments by organisations working in the country.

It cited a publication by TheAfricaReport saying that while Nigerians are urged to endure economic hardship like labour pains, some state governors are spending billions of Naira on new government houses.

The US Mission also quoted BudgIT warning that instead of funding schools, clinics, or agriculture, Nigerian leaders were busy spending on buildings they barely use.

It equally referenced the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre saying that the administration had access to more money, but little accountability, and no priority.
