42 SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR RAPE, AS OGUN STATE POLICE COMMAND Q1 REPORT SHOWS REDUCTION IN CRIME TRENDS

The Ogun State Police Command says its operatives killed 3 suspected armed robbers and arrested 42 others since the beginning of this year, 2025.

During the period from January 1 to March 28, operatives of the state command also recovered a total of 40 firearms and 177 various types of ammunition.

Additionally, 5 suspected kidnappers, 65 suspected cultists, and 43 suspects were arrested for alleged rape during the period, while 26 stolen vehicles were recovered.

The details were contained in the 2025 1st Quarter Report of operational outcomes of the command, which was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).

She the total number of suspects arrested during the period stands at 2,141, while cases charged to court were 1,345, while cases that were successfully prosecuted are 1,530, out of which 62 convictions were secured.

Furthermore, the Ogun State Police Command successfully recovered property value at N106,786,000 (One Hundred and Six Million, Seven Hundred and Eighty-Six Thousand Naira.)

However, despite the number of cases and suspected criminals arrested, CSP Odutola said there was a noticeable reduction in the crime rate in Ogun State during the first quarter of the year.

CSP Odutola said this was due to funding logistics support from the Ogun State Government, constructive engagement with members of the public, improved access to police facilities, enhanced police visibility on the highways, cooperation of the judiciary.

She said the Ogun State Police Command also enjoyed robust collaboration with other security agencies in the state and the deployment of additional operational assets from Force Headquarters during the period under review.

The Police spokeswoman said the release of the First Quarter Report was in line with the commitment of the Ogun State Police Command to transparency and accountability to the good people of the state.
