COURT JAILS MAN OVER N1.1M EMPLOYMENT FRAUD IN MAIDUGURI

Justice Muhammad Maina of the Borno State High Court, sitting Maiduguri, has convicted and sentenced one Gilbert Nosihe Omorogbe to one year imprisonment for employment fraud.

Justice Maina delivered the judgment against Omorogbe on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, after he was arraigned by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The antigraft agency had slammed a one- count charge against Omorogbe, bordering on criminal misappropriation to the tune of N1,190,000.

The amended charge reads: ''That you Gilbert Nosihe Omorogbe on or about May, 2021 in Maiduguri, Borno State dishonestly misappropriated and converted to your own use the aggregate sum of N1,190,000.00 (One Million, One Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira), belonging to one Sarah Bulama under the guise to secure an employment for her sister and one other person with National Commission for the Control of Arms and Ammunition (a.k.a National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons) and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 308 and punishable under Section 309 of the Penal Code Law of Borno State (Cap. 102 vol. 3 of 1994) respectively.”

EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, who confirmed the development in a statement, said the defendant accordingly pleaded guilty to the charge, while counsel to the defendant A. A. Yaro, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.

Justice Maina thereafter convicted and sentenced Omorogbe to one year imprisonment with an option of fine of N200,000.00 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira).
