LEKKI VIOLENCE: POLICE ARREST 23 SUSPECTED CULTIST, RECOVER FIREARM, AMMUNITION
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of twenty-three suspects in connection to cult-related violence in the Lekki-Ajah axis last Sunday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP BENJAMIN HUNDEYIN, said exhibits recovered from the suspects include an AK-47 rifle and one magazine, with fourteen rounds of live ammunition.
CSP HUNDEYIN said the suspects are members of cult groups who were involved in a clash in an uninhabited space on Wole Olateju Street in Lekki Phase One, where three persons were murdered.
The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Command, OLOHUNDARE JIMOH, visited the scene with joint team of police personnel to see things for himself.
He said CP JIMOH ordered the reinforcement of security across Lekki and Ajah as well as Ogombo, and Elemoro, with a view to detect and prevent crime prevention, and generally ensure the safety of lives and properties in the area.
Also, CP JIMOH specifically directed the deployment of the Anti-Cultism Team and other Tactical teams under the Elemoro Area Command to Lekki Phase One to further tighten security in the area.
The police spokesman said the Commissioner of Police also approved the redeployment of some Divisional Police Officers in the affected area, to bring new driver towards curtailing crime in the area.
He said the Lagos State Police Command calls on residents to cooperate fully with the intervention team to ensure the success of the operations and maintain safety and security for all.
