POLICE ARREST TAXI DRIVER FOR ABDUCTION OF FEMALE PASSENGER FROM LAGOS TO AJUORE, OGUN STATE

The police in Ogun State have arrested a ride-share taxi driver at Ojuore for alleged abduction of a female passenger at Onipanu axis of the state.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Olayemi Yusuf was detained after he was rescued from an angry mob, thereby saving from being lynched.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said Yusuf was arrested by operatives of the Onipanu Divisional Headquarters.

Omolola Odutola said the police team also rescued the victim, identified as 22-year-old Coutroupis Peace, at the scene of the incident along Ilogbo Road, Ojuore.

Odutola said police investigations revealed that the victim, who lives at No.17 Fisher Street, Cement Bus-Stop, Lagos, booked the taxi ride online on Monday, March 24, in Lekki, Lagos to another destination within Lekki.

The PPRO said the driver initially told the passenger that his vehicle’s navigation system had malfunctioned, after he deviated from the intended route and thereafter overpowered the lady and restrained her hands with two plastic tyre clips.

However, driver ran out of luck when he arrived at Omowo Filling Station along Ilogbo road, Ota, where the victim managed to raise alarm and drew the attention of passersby.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has enjoins the public to avoid taking laws into their own hands but to report suspicious activities to the authorities for proper investigation and legal action.
