POLICE FOIL ATTEMPTED ROBBERY, RECOVER FIREARM, AMMUNITION
Operatives of the Alausa Division of the Lagos State Police Command have foiled an attempted robbery on a commercial tricycle rider along the Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the operatives were on a routine surveillance patrol when they spotted a male tricycle operator being forcefully dragged by three assailants in an attempt to dispossess him of his tricycle.
CSP Benjamin disclosed in a statement that upon noticing the approaching Police patrol van, the criminals took to their heels, with the officers engaging them in a hot pursuit.
He said although the suspects managed to escape from the scene in the process, but they abandoned a black bag containing a Beretta pistol, with one live ammunition, as well as a cutlass, a knife, and items that looked like charms.
However, the PPRO said the victim sustained machete cuts on his head and other parts of his body, and was immediately rushed to the Lagos State Emergency Center by the Police team, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
He said following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has commended the swift and courageous response of the patrol officers and reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all residents and visitors to Lagos State.
"The Lagos State Police Command urges all citizens to remain vigilant and continue to support law enforcement efforts by promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station" he said.
