POLICE NAB EX-CONVICT ON SUSPICION OF CULTISM, POSSESSION OF ILLEGAL FIREARM

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command under the Ijede Division have arrested one ONAMADE KAYODE, on suspicion of cultism and armed robbery, with a locally-made firearm recovered from him.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP BENJAMIN HUNDEYIN, disclosed in a statement that ONAMADE KAYODE was arrested on August 18, 2025, at the Sabon Kasuwa area of Abule Eko, following complaints that an individual was brandishing a gun in the area and threatening members of the public.

CSP HUNDEYIN said investigations revealed that KAYODE was released from prison in 2022 for cultism related offences and is still an active member of a cult group.

He said the suspect admitted to having a firearm and led the operatives to a toilet pipe within the uncompleted building from where the firearm was recovered.

The PPRO said the suspect is currently cooperating with ongoing investigations to apprehend other cult members and recover weapons in their possession, after which he will be prosecuted accordingly.
