POLICE KILL KIDNAPPER, RESCUE VICTIM IN ENUGU

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have successfully rescued a male victim of kidnapping and killed one of the kidnappers during an operation in the early hours of May 3, 2025.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Daniel Ndukwe said the operation was carried out by officers of the CP Monitoring Unit and the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad.

SP Ndukwe said the operation also led to the recovery of a locally made double-barrel pistol loaded with two live cartridges from the neutralised suspect and a green-coloured Nissan Almeria car used by the kidnappers.

He said the suspects, operating in the Nissan vehicle, abducted the victim in his Mercedes Jeep after firing sporadic gunshots within the Government Residential Area (GRA) of Enugu at about 9:00 p.m. on May 2, 2025.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, on receipt of information, immediately mobilised operational and intelligence assets to ensure the victim’s safe rescue and the arrest of the perpetrators.

The PPRO said through a coordinated effort, the police operatives trailed the gang to their hideout in a valley within the Ngwo area, where they exchanged gunfight with the gang, leading to the killing of one of the suspects and the safe rescue of the victim.

However, he said the suspects had forcefully transferred the sum of two million, two hundred and fifty thousand naira (₦2,250,000.00) from the victim’s account after initially demanding a ransom of twenty million naira (₦20,000,000.00).
