POLICE NABS ORILE MURDER SUSPECT IN KOGI STATE, RECOVER STOLEN VEHICLE
Detectives of the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested one Abubakar Iliyasu for the murder of 65-year-old Mrs Jane Okoye in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos State.
Abubakar Iliyasu allegedly committed the crime on April 2, 2025, after he forcibly gained access to the victim’s premises and fled in her Toyota Sienna vehicle.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said the victim was found unconscious and taken to a medical facility where she later passed on.
Following the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for discreet and thorough investigation, CSP Hundeyin said a team of homicide detectives promptly swung into action, deploying both intelligence and technical resources to get the suspect apprehended and recover the stolen property.
He said efforts of the detectives yielded positive results as the principal suspect, Abubakar Iliyasu, who had absconded with the victim's other personal items, was traced to Ankpa, Kogi State, where he was arrested and the vehicle recovered in good condition.
The PPRO said the suspect is currently being detained at the SCID, Yaba, where he is assisting investigators with useful information.
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has assured that the suspect will be prosecuted at the conclusion of the investigation.
